PRIVACY STATEMENT

LIFE INVESTMENT (hereafter called the “firm”) takes your data processing rights seriously. In the present policy document we explain how we collect, process and use your personal data. It constitutes our firm’s general data processing policy, in accordance with the applicable legislation such as the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).

As an insurance broker, our firm may fulfil a double role when it comes to data processing, in which case we are both controller and processor. We are the controller when processing data in our own name and on our own account. We are also the processor for the benefit of companies. This means that we also collect and process personal data for the insurance companies with whom we collaborate and whose products we propose and provide. The present statement explains in detail only the processing of your data as a controller.

Controller

The controller is LIFE INVESTMENT – PASTEELSSTRAAT 1 in 2640 MORTSEL (BELGIUM) – 0884.642.473.

For any questions regarding our privacy policy, you can contact Life Investment – Pasteelsstraat 1 – 2640 Mortsel (Belgium). For questions beyond a simple inquiry, we may ask you to identify yourself, to make sure that we provide the requested information and data to the right person.

When does our firm collect and process data?

Our firm collects and processes data about you when you contact us for advice on insurance contracts, for the proposing or providing of insurance contracts, for preparatory work with a view to signing insurance contracts and for the signing of insurance contracts itself. You can also rely on us or contact us for assistance with the management and execution of insurance contracts signed by you. And when you contact us in any other manner, we will (have to) process your data. Finally, we may also obtain data about you through third parties and use these data to contact you in order to sign a contract through our mediation.

What type of data does our firm collect and process?

Our firm collects and process data you provide us with as a result of your contact with our firm, such as your name, address, e-mail address and professional data, such as your company name and VAT number. This also concerns all the necessary data which allow us to assess your insurance needs. Among other things, this concerns financial and medical data. Your data will only be processed within the scope of the insurance for which you rely on us, unless you decide otherwise and also indicate this.

We collect these data when you manually complete our documents and forms and also when you do so electronically. Cookies are used when visiting our web site. For more information about this, please contact our firm.

For which purposes does our firm collect and process data?

We process data for a variety of purposes which are listed below.

We process these data on behalf of our clients for customer relationship management, particularly the acceptance, management and signing of insurance contracts and the promotion of other products and services provided by our firm. The processing of these data is primarily based on the contractual relationship with our clients, but also, insofar as it concerns prospection, on your express permission.

As far as suppliers are concerned, we process these data within the scope of our supplier management and on the basis of the contractual relationship we have or build with our suppliers.

Insofar as it concerns prospects, i.e. natural persons who are not (yet) a client of ours, we process the data for direct marketing purposes, based on our legitimate business interests. We request prospects who are contacted by e-mail to give their express permission to continue contacting them in the future. We request prospects who are contacted by letter to tick an opt-out clause if they do not wish us to continue contacting them.

As far as our employees are concerned, we process the data for purposes such as human resources management and wage administration.

As far as our web site is concerned, we match the content and ease of use as much as possible to the users. We also process your data in order to fulfil the obligations stemming from the provision of a web site and its content and in order to enable you to use the interactive applications and services on this web site.

On which bases do we process your data?

In principle, we collect and process your data on the basis of our contractual relationship with you as a result of your application or request regarding an insurance need and the ensuing contract(s), and as a result of your request for assistance with the management and follow-up of the insurance contracts signed by you.

Whenever the processing is not necessary to execute the contractual relationship, it is based on our legitimate interests as a company, in particular the freedom of enterprise and information. In addition, we always ensure a balance between our and your interests, for instance by granting you a right of objection.

Insofar as it concerns your health data or so-called sensitive data, we can only process your personal data with your express permission. Your permission is requested when you become a client of ours. If your permission has not been requested, we ask that you inform us, so that we can take the necessary action.

Life Investment will only store your personal data for as long as it needs these data to carry out its tasks and to look after its interests, taking into consideration the legal retention periods. If the policyholder has its address outside the EEA, data will be exchanged in the same manner as if it were a national client.

Are the data disclosed to third parties?

Your data are primarily processed internally. This does not alter the fact that they must be communicated to the insurance company with which you eventually sign the contract.

We may rely on third parties for certain periodic services. In such cases your data can be provided to these third parties, but only for the services in question and always under our firm’s control.

In certain cases there is a legal obligation to transmit certain data. In particular, this is the case when we are legally obliged to do so or public authorities have the right to request data from us. In principle, your data are not transmitted to third-party countries or to international organisations.

Your rights

The regulations grant various rights to you, in order to ensure that you are sufficiently protected.

At any given time, you can object to the use of your data by our firm for direct marketing purposes. If you do not wish to be kept informed of our firm’s offers, you can communicate this to Life Investment – Pasteelsstraat 1 – 2640 Mortsel (Belgium) or by ticking a box in the information provided to you on specific occasions.

You can always access and, if necessary, correct the data we process about you. To do so, it suffices to send a request to Life Investment – Pasteelsstraat 1 – 2640 Mortsel (Belgium) with proof of your identity. We ask such proof in order to prevent your data from being communicated to someone who is not entitled to it.

If you disagree with the manner in which we process your data, you can always file a complaint with the Data Protection Authority, Drukpersstraat 35 in 1000 Brussels (Belgium). You can also contact the Data Protection Authority for any general questions regarding the processing and protection of personal data.
